2018 kicks off with a bang this year as we see a Supermoon Full Moon on January 1st, Uranus stationing Direct on the 2nd and supercharged Mars in its ruling sign of Scorpio spending the first week of the year forming a conjunction to expansive Jupiter, exact on January 6th. Our confidence is high and so is our physical energy as the year begins. Perfect for tackling those projects we have avoided because they seem overwhelming. Especially if you do them with your mate. Just be careful that you don’t overdo it. Way too easy here to attempt stunts better left to those who know what they are doing.  Yes, there is a lot of “luck” here, and if your karma is good, risks taken now pay off big time, although I have to say, under these transits you don’t want to gamble with anything you can’t afford to lose. And no playing with knives, power tools or combustibles unless you take the necessary safety precautions. Needless to say,  the emergency rooms are going to be very busy this first week of the year. So are the casinos, police stations, military bases and secret services. We also see the Superior conjunction of the Sun and Venus on January 8th conjunct Pluto. This will see the culmination of events that were put in motion back in March and April of 2017.  If you played your cards right last year the payoffs here are enormous. If your morality was questionable in the process, say goodbye to your financial security, Pluto doesn’t play around with right and wrong. You made your bed, now Pluto is going to take you to task or raise you up in triumph.

In 2018 there are 5 eclipses that happen throughout the year, but the Total Lunar Eclipse on January 31st is the big one to watch on the West Coast.  77 minutes of totality and almost 3 ½ hours in all, although the Moon will set on the West Coast before the eclipse ends. The other total Lunar Eclipse that happens this year in July will be visible to everyone else on the Earth except North America. The three partial Solar eclipses this year will not be visible here either.

The big meteor showers this year will be the Perseids mid-August and the Geminids mid- December. The Perseids will peak overnight August 12-13 starting just after sunset from the North East, peaking about 11pm at about 90 per hour.  The Geminids will peak pre-dawn on December 14th at about 100-120 per hour.

The transits that I am most excited about this year are Uranus entering Taurus for the first time in 84 years and Jupiter in Scorpio trine Neptune and sextile Pluto. Uranus entering Taurus has me a bit worried regarding our food supplies and supply chains as well as what it is likely to do to the banking systems while it is in Taurus, until April of 2026. I highly recommend stocking up on those luxuries that you just can’t seem to do without. Also, I intend to add earthquake insurance to my homeowner’s policies, long before it enters Taurus mid-May. On the brighter side, Uranus in Taurus is going to truly upend societies all too heavy dependence on money as the highest priority.  Think back to the last time Uranus was in Taurus 1934 to 1941. Oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia, Franklin D. Roosevelt signs the Social Security Act and creates the Works Progress Administration and the Securities and Exchange commission as the US struggles to come out of the Great Depression. The heat waves and droughts in the mid-west create the now infamous Dust Bowl. And Hitler and Stalin were ramping up their evil deeds leading to WWII and some of the largest shortages of foods and supplies ever recorded.   And don’t get me started about Bit-coin, which by the end of 2018 will probably be way down to about $3,000 to $5,000. Staples and luxury items are the way to go in 2018.

Jupiter’s trek through Scorpio shines a light in the deep recesses of Scorpio’s domain, that of sex, taxes and death and it is obvious to any Astrologer the Me Too movement is one of the positive effects of this transit. We will continue to see the uncovering and purging of the seedier side of Scorpio, more  shady behind the scenes manipulation of the markets, more Big business scandals and of course the fight over the implementation of President Trump’s tax plans. On the bright side Jupiter in Scorpio brings passion to all we do and afford us the temerity to stand our ground and take up the banners of transformation. We are willing to put it all on the line. Darkness be damned. Add the sextile from the other ruler of Scorpio, Pluto and the trine from Neptune the planet of idealism, compassion and higher love and we have a wonderful formula for change this year. Don’t let the fear of loss or failure hold you back this year. It is always darkest before the dawn.
